Hurricanes assistant coach Tyler Bleyendaal said it would be good for the game if the Covid level dropped to Level One to allow a crowd for the game on Sunday.

Level Two was imposed from 6am on Sunday for seven days and the Government is expected to announce any changes later this week. The game was scheduled for Saturday night.

"They've shifted the game in the hope we might get a crowd on Sunday. That's a great result if we can because it's awesome to play rugby in these big contests in front of a crowd and passionate Crusaders supporters," Bleyendaal said.

"We're looking forward to going down there. We hope for the best but the public's health and safety and the safety of our players is first and foremost."

Reviewing their opening-round 16-31 loss to the Blues, Bleyendaal said the Hurricanes put too much pressure on themselves as a result of poor discipline.

"That made us pretty tired towards the end of the game and that Blues side, they're big, they're strong, a top quality team and we just couldn't keep up with them," he said.

There were still some positives to come out of the performance.

"We're still trying to grow our game, so it's not all doom and gloom. We've got a few areas that we are trying to grow, still nailing our habits but discipline has to be a massive focus," he said.

Individual players needed to stand up and be better while as a team they needed to change their mindset.

Bleyendaal had been impressed with rising utility back Ruben Love. He was an electric player and highly skilful who was diligent in his approach and he said he was enjoying working with him.

"He's pretty special for his young age, so I think we can expect special things but it will take a bit of time for him to mature and grow as a player. He's a very exciting talent," he said.

The Crusaders v Hurricanes round two clash is scheduled to take place at 4.35pm on Sunday 7 March with crowds subject to Covid Alert Levels. Check the Crusaders website for ticketing details.
