“I’ll yell at him you got the wrong jersey”

Beaudy Campbell heart break

Speaking on TVNZ’s Breakfast this morning, long-time Hurricanes fan John Campbell said he will have a special message for the player who racked up 125 appearances for the Hurricanes between 2011-2019 before making a shock switch to the Blues for the 2020 season.

“I’ll yell at him you got the wrong jersey,” Campbell responded when asked what he what he would yell at Barrett from the stands at Eden Park.

With crowds welcome at all Investec Super Rugby Aotearoa fixtures following New Zealand’s move to Covid-19 Alert Level 1, Campbell will have the opportunity pass his special message onto Barrett when the Blues host the Hurricanes at Eden Park this Sunday at 3.35pm.

While Barrett will no doubt be on the end of plenty of few jibes from Hurricanes fans in attendance at Eden Park, Campbell said he would also be offering plenty of support for his team in yellow and black.

“I yell constantly. I yell out for TJ, I yell out for Ardie, I yell out for Ben,” Campbell said

Barrett’s first match for the Blues is one of the most anticipated debuts in Investec Super Rugby history. Long seen as a career Hurricane, Barrett led the team to their first and only title in 2016 and holds the club’s all-time point scoring record of 1,247.

His switch north has renewed hopes among Blues fans of breaking a title drought which stretches all the way back to 2003 when Carlos Spencer was in the pivot position. The late addition of two-time Rugby World Cup winner Dan Carter to the Blues squad as an injury replacement has further intensified the hype around the Blues chances in the New Zealand-only competition.
