They kick started their campaign with a bang, with Sevu Reece scoring in the first minute of the match. The Crusaders pouncing on loose ball from the line out and Joe Moody making a nice run before it eventually got out to Reece.

The Hurricanes opted to kick for points in the first half with Jackson Garden-Bachop slotting four penalties and a drop goal. The home side trailed 15-19 at the break, with the Crusaders scoring two more tries in the opening half.

Asafo Aumua scored the Hurricanes one and only try of the game. A brilliant offload from Ngani Laumape put Aumua in on the left flank. With just ten minutes on the clock the score was locked at 25-25.

However, the Crusaders capitalised on a couple of costly mistakes from the Hurricanes, to score two quick tries and run away with the game.

The Hurricanes are now 0-2 for the season and have a bye next week, while the Crusaders are at home for the first time next week, against the Chiefs at Orangetheory Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Hurricanes: 25 (Asafo Aumua try; Jackson Garden-Bachop 5 pens, 1 drop goal, 1 con) Crusaders: 39 (Sevu Reece, Braydon Ennor, Jack Goodhue, Richie Mo’unga, David Havili tries; Mo’unga 4 con, 2 pens)
