Club rugby to have a super flavour this weekend

After two appearances in Investec Super Rugby Aotearoa, Savea will return to club rugby as part of the Oriental Rongotai side to face Paremata-Plimmerton at Miramar's Polo Grounds.

Savea is one of several Hurricanes players released on their bye week for club duties. He will be joined by Alex Fidow in the Ories colours, while Billy Proctor, Fletcher Smith, Jonathan Taumateine (Marist St Pats), Peter Umaga-Jensen (Wainuiomata), Kobus van Wyk (Petone), Asafo Aumua (Avalon) and Murphy Taramai (Upper Hutt) are set to feature in Wellington club rugby.

Manawatu players, Jamie Booth (University) and Brayden Iose (Kia Toa), along with Taranaki’s Ricky Riccitelli (Tukapa) will return home for club rugby as will Hawke’s Bay’s Devan Flanders (Havelock), Jonah Lowe (Clive) and Pouri Rakete-Stones (Pirates).

In Blues territory, Jordan Trainor will play fullback for Ponsonby and Jonathon Ruru will  turn out for University. Hurricanes winger Salesi Rayasi will play for his Auckland club Marist.

Other Blues players set to feature for their club on Saturday are Aaron Carroll (Mt Maunganui), Ezekiel Lindenmuth (Ardmore Marist) and Jack Heighton (East Coast Bays). Tamati Tua, Luteru Tolai and Waimana Riedlinger-Kapa are also available but their clubs weren’t known at the time of publication.

Nine Chiefs players have been released for club duties, Shaun Stevenson (Northcote) will return to North Harbour, Etene Nanai-Seturo (Karaka) and Donald Maka (Onewhero) to Counties Manukau, Kini Naholo (Clifton) to Taranaki, Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi (Rotoiti) to Bay of Plenty, Tiaan Falcon (Clive) to Hawke’s Bay while Ryan Coxon (Hautapu), Alex Nankivell (Hautapu) and Bailyn Sullivan (Hamilton Marist) will bolster the Waikato club competition.

In Highlanders country, the club season begins next week but a number of players will still be sighted in preseason action. They are; Zane Kapeli and Vilimoni Korori (Alhambra Union), Jesse Parete and Tei Walden (Southern) and Kirisi Kuridrani (Zingari Richmond).

A number of All Blacks Sevens players will also be turning out for their clubs this weekend, and throughout the season including Sam Dickson, Tone Ng Shiu, William Warbrick and Ngarohi McGarvey-Black.
