Commenting on the Aotearoa Rugby Pod on reports that Laumape was in the sights of French rugby interests, Parsons said he had grown his game, and while a different player to Jack Goodhue, Anton Lienert-Brown and Rieko Ioane, that difference could create a more diverse midfield threat for the side.
Parsons said he didn't think Laumape had fulfilled his dream yet. It appeared that several times in the past he had been showing his best form and was at the forefront of All Blacks' consideration only to suffer injuries at vital moments.
He hadn't played the amount of Test rugby he wanted as a result, he said.
"This year he's in hot form again, and right in line to be starting for the All Blacks again," he said.
Parsons hoped Laumape didn't head overseas because he felt he had a huge All Blacks career ahead of him.
There were aspects of his game that he appeared to be working hard at this year.
"He's really looking to work on his kicking game, he's looking to work on his link game and that doesn't come from a player that doesn't have a growth mindset. Ngani clearly wants to get better every day," he said.
Parsons compared his growth in the game to the way former All Black Ma'a Nonu grew his game. Nonu was a player who had been told what he needed to improve, worked on it, and developed into the world's best second five-eighths.
He had also been a player with a growth mindset.
"If we could get him to hang around and build into something like that, he's got a hell of a lot to offer," he said.
Crusaders halfback Bryn Hall said the improvements he had added to his game had made him a more complete player.
"He's trying to evolve that second-five pivot he plays. That's what they're looking for, a guy who can be a triple threat, and Ngani's making a conscious effort to try and do that."
A driven individual, who wanted to be like that, was what coaches were looking for, he said.
"I think it would be a shame for him to leave, he's got so much to give in the All Blacks' jersey," he said.
