The 45-game veteran at NPC level for the Pukekohe-based side also played 12 times for the Blues in Super Rugby in 2013-14 before overseas stints with Bedford, Saracens and Honda Heat.

Drua coach Mick Byrne, the All Blacks skills coach in their 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cup successes, said they needed a first five-eighths capable of keeping their pack moving forward through tactical kicking while also looking to unleash their backline at every chance.

"Just like our fans, we want our game-plan based around fast, powerful and adventurous plays," he told the Fiji Sun.

"Baden has the right skills to meet this requirement. It's exciting for us to have him in our Drua squad to reinforce that crucial playmaker position.

"He brings valuable top-level experience into our squad having played in Super Rugby, the English Premiership, New Zealand's National Provincial Championship and Japan," he said.

The other first five-eighths in the side who has Super Rugby experience, Teti Tela is back in light training while rehabilitating from an Achilles tendon rupture.

"Successful Super Rugby teams play the game in the right part of the field, and Baden ticks all the boxes with a set of skills – adventurous play, tactical kicking and accurate goal-kicking.

"He is already used to being part of a squad with players from Fiji and Pacific islands, so we're confident he'll adjust to the Drua environment," he said.
